Our needs assessment

Our team ([roles]) completed this needs assessment as part of our MICIP work ([dates]). 6 team members rated 21 possible needs across 5 areas, compared our ratings, and settled the items where we disagreed by checking the evidence. We reviewed MI School Index results (sample), MI School Data, student attendance (sample), Discipline records (sample), Master schedule (sample), and Benchmark screening (sample).

Priority needs

1. Math and ELA growth are low, with little time for intervention. Our MI School Index Growth value was 47.3 in 2024-25; the middle school median was 80.0. Our schedule has no intervention period. Need area: Removing barriers: achievement and access. Team ratings: math and ELA (significant need) and time for support (significant need). 2. Suspensions remove students from class. Our out-of-school suspension rate was 14.2% in 2024-25, and 61% of suspensions were for classroom disruption (discipline records, sample). Need area: MTSS: social and mental health. Team ratings: discipline (significant need).

Needs we did not prioritize

We rated MTSS: dropout and graduation lower (team average 2.1 of 4), so we did not make it a priority. [Add the data behind this.] We rated MTSS: chronic absenteeism lower (team average 2.5 of 4), so we did not make it a priority. [Add the data behind this.] We rated building leadership and team routines lower (team average 2.8 of 4), so we did not make it a priority. [Add the data behind this.]

Data we still need

Most of our team marked these as not sure or no data, so we will gather the data before finalizing the proposal: graduation rate.
